Rediscovering Nîmes

Last week, I was invited by the Nîmes Tourist Office to see what the city now has to offer. I came away enchanted and inspired. Not only is the city just as beautiful as I remembered, but it has also undergone a quiet transformation into a destination worthy of a luxury stay. There are now three five-star hotels, two of which are right in the heart of the old town. And of course, the Roman landmarks are still as impressive as ever—the Arena, the Maison Carrée (now a UNESCO World Heritage Site), and a spectacular museum that traces the city’s Roman history through artifacts and statues—all excavated in Nîmes itself.
